 WELCOME!

If you are the responsible for the human resources department of a company then you can play many roles, among which we highlight those approaches made in a more affective way to your collaborators – especially in situations where the emotional component is very high - a new incorporation vs. dismissal, promotion vs. des-promotion, discipline vs. reward, and so on. Those responsibilities that are given to you should have a solid foundation based in something that in the world of leadership is called EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE (EI) - “is the ability to identify, use, understand, and manage emotions in positive and constructive ways. It's about recognizing own emotional state and the emotional states of others. Emotional intelligence is also about engaging with others in ways that draw to one’s sphere. ” (Segal & Smith, 2010)

Unlike IQ that is innate, the emotional quotient can be improved, learned and strengthened. This is where COACHING can play an important role. As head of human resources will be interested to know that:

1. You demonstrate EI when you have the ability to quickly reduce the stress levels of your co-workers. And coaching helps you to:
- Realize when they are stressed,
- Identify their response to stress,
- And to idealize and implement effective strategies to eliminate a negative stressful environment within your co-workers.
2. You demonstrate EI when you have the ability to recognize and help to manage the emotions of your co-workers. Your COACH will ask questions like the following:
- Can you identify how your co-workers feelings flow?
- Are these feelings and emotions connected to the changes that your co-workers experience daily? If so, to what extend?
- Are their emotions accompanied by physical sensations (in the stomach, chest, etc.)?
- Can you feel the emotions such as anger, sadness, fear, joy… that they experience through their facial expression?
- Do you pay attention to their emotions? Are they important when you take decisions involving your co-workers directly?
3. You demonstrate EI when you have the ability to establish a connection with your co-workers using nonverbal communication. Coaching gives you the tools to Improve non-verbal communication, which includes paying attention to:
- Eye contact,
- Facial expression,
- Tone of voice,
- Posture and gestures,
- Touch,
- Coordination and rhythm.
4. You demonstrate EI when you have the ability to use humour and play when facing challenges in your working environment. Your coach will provide strategies for you to:
- Know how to face difficulties calmly,
- Know how to smooth any differences between your co-workers,
- Know how to relax and energize the environment around your co-workers,
- Encourage creativity among your co-workers.
5. You demonstrate EI when you have the ability to resolve conflicts that may arise within your co-workers in a positive way and with confidence. Your coach will support to:
- Focus on the present,
- Choose well your arguments,
- Forgive,
- End conflicts that can't be resolved.
All leaders using positive leadership understand the importance of Emotional Intelligence very likely because they have developed it first with themselves. We encourage you to lead by example, apply the tools of emotional intelligence in your personal life first and then transfer that wisdom to deal with your co-workers in your workplace and COACHING is the best tool to achieve it. Do not forget to:

Change yourself – NOW. It all starts from WITHIN.

Rich Vit. C foods
Nutrition for leaders:
Vitamin C plays important roles in our body:
- It's involved in numerous metabolic reactions (for example, it may prevent and/ or improve the symptoms of a cold, especially important in winter and cold weather)
- It acts as an antioxidant,
- It helps the absorption of iron from food.
According to Olga Cuevas (2004) you'll need about 60-70mg/day. Even more if you are pregnant and breast-feeding and under stress, with tobacco abuse, by taking regular aspirin, antibiotics, cortisone, tranquillizers or birth control pills, when taking frequently alcohol and when you have infectious diseases.
